How does it work?
Microneedling, otherwise known as Collagen Induction Therapy is a procedure that utilises a micro needling device to stimulate skin rejuvenation.
The process creates controlled, microscopic injuries on the superficial layer of the skin which trigger the skin’s natural healing process and stimulates the production of fundamental skin components (collagen and elastin) to keep the skin smooth, firm, and blemish-free.
Does it hurt?
There is minimal to zero pain when undergoing an in-clinic microneedling session with a trained skin specialist. But if you do have low pain tolerance, topical numbing cream can be applied on the skin for your comfort. Speak to your therapist about this before commencing your treatment.
Is it invasive?
Unlike traditional skin rejuvenation treatments, microneedling is a minimally invasive procedure. The micro injuries on the skin heal quickly, hence there is minimal risk for infection provided the necessary hygiene measures and post care instructions are followed.
Clinical evidence has also shown that the repair and recovery process after microneedling with Dermapen is much faster than using at-home derma rollers and less advanced imitation in-clinic skin pens. It is important that a qualified professional therapist conducts the treatment to avoid infection or even worsening of symptoms.
How does it compare to other skin rejuvenation procedures?
When compared alongside other traditional skin rejuvenation procedures, dermapen microneedling benefits include:
Microneedling is a minimally-invasive procedure, so you do need not stop your daily routine. You can go back to daily activities and skincare routine a day after their first session.
Minimal to no side effects:
Compared to laser treatments and chemical peels that can make the skin hypersensitive, there are no side effects or adverse effects from microneedling in healthy individuals. At most you can experience redness and minor inflammation which will then subside after a few hours.
Cost-effective skin rejuvenation system:
Microneedling is cheaper than laser resurfacing and chemical peeling since there’s not a lot of products to use to perform the procedure.
Enhances other treatments:
When used in combination with other skin rejuvenation treatments such as DMK paramedical resurfacing, IPL and hydro microdermabrasion, microneedling enhances the speed at which results become visible on the skin.
Will it really increase the effectiveness of my daily skin care routine?
With repeated microneedling sessions, the skin’s ability to absorb nutrients from skincare products improve resulting in well-nourished skin.
We encourage the use of an individualised recommended DMK home care prescription to support the results of your micro needling treatments.
DMK skincare essentials are formulated to support the effects of microneedling as well as to nourish the skin, protect it from the elements, assist with eliminating any redness or discomfort and hasten the skins repair.
How do I look after my skin after a treatment?
Although microneedling is a relatively safe procedure there are a couple of post-treatment guidelines that you need to follow to ensure you get the best results and your skin is not damaged after your procedure.
Avoid direct contact from the sun. Do not forget to use sunscreen with adequate SPF. The skin is highly sensitive after any type of invasive skin procedure, however minimally invasive.
Wear a hat or cap to further protect your skin from the harsh UV rays of the sun.
Do not use exfoliants and alcohol-based skincare products.
After microneedling the skin is injured and will need time to heal. Using exfoliants will create more uneven punctures and/or damages which may result in longer healing time and adverse effects.
How long until I see results?
Depending on the condition being treated most people see a marked improvement in their skin's condition after 4-6 treatments.
