Frequently Asked Questions

What are Anti-wrinkle Injections?

Anti-Wrinkle Injections are primarily used for lines and wrinkles that appear when we use our muscles repeatedly to make facial expressions. They’re used to relax specific facial muscles that cause expression lines which can age the face.

Because the muscles are relaxed their movement is restricted, preventing future undesirable facial expressions which lead to lines and wrinkles. Consequently, the lines and wrinkles gradually smooth and new ones are prevented from forming.

Quick Facts

  • Anti-wrinkle injections help to relax certain wrinkle-causing muscles in the face to produce a younger and more refreshed appearance.

  • By altering the dynamics of muscle activity, it is possible to improve the aesthetic appearance of the face.

  • Injectables are relatively painless when performed using special techniques including ice, vibration and the injecting gun.

  • The onset of action is 4 days and the average longevity of anti-wrinkle injections is usually 3 to 4 months.

  • The treatment has a proven safety record for over 25 years.

Frown lines

Anti-wrinkle treatments will help prevent the formation of wrinkles creating a frown.

We all frown when we express ourselves. These frown lines are caused by the facial muscles (procerus and corrugator) that pull the skin inwards and downwards, causing the skin between the brows to frown.

Bunny lines

Bunny lines refer to the fine lines that appear on either side of your nose when you wrinkle it. Like many types of facial wrinkles, bunny lines are caused by repeating certain facial expressions. These lines can be a natural part of growing older, and some people find them charming.

Neck bands

Neck Bands form as a result of excessive downward pull by your neck muscle, brought on with ageing. This muscle, called the platysma, is a very large muscle encasing your neck. Neck Bands are most often seen in older, very thin women with low body fat.

Forehead lines

Restore a youthful appearance by smoothing away the horizontal fine lines and wrinkles across your forehead.

When we raise our eyebrows, we get horizontal lines that can stretch across the length of the forehead. This is due to the ‘frontalis’ muscle. The severity depends on your age, gender and genetics.

Anti-wrinkle injections are very effective in reducing the intensity of the lines and in some cases, are enough to erase them.

Gummy Smile

Anti-wrinkle injections can be used to reduce a high gum muscle, allowing the upper lip to better cover the gum tissue.

Dimpled chin

Anti-wrinkle injections are a great way to relax lines and dimples in the chin caused by hyperactive muscles to result in a smoother, fuller chin area. This can also help acne scars that might be accentuated by the muscle action in the chin. Very low doses of wrinkle relaxers can be very effective, with the action lasting for about 3 to 4 months.

Crows feet

Anti-wrinkle injections can help rejuvenate the small wrinkles and creases that form on the outer corner of the eyes and open up the eyes.

When facially expressing yourself, the skin around your eyes naturally crinkles, radiating from the outer corner of your eyes. Over time, these ‘dynamic’ lines can develop into deeper ‘static’ lines.

Barcode lines (upper lip)

Anti-wrinkle injections can give the upper lip a subtle enhancement for a softer and fuller appearance. The lip flip is the latest cosmetic injecting trend at only a fraction of the cost of lip filler.

This treatment uses a few units of anti-wrinkle injections to lift the sides of the upper lip, flipping your lip outward, resulting in a slight lift and curl of your lip for a soft natural looking appearance.

1-49 units: $13 per unit

50+units: $11 per unit

MR Injectable Wrinkle Treatment

What are anti-wrinkle treatments?

Anti-wrinkle treatments are used to reduce lines and wrinkles that form in the upper face. They contain a protein that causes the injected facial muscle to relax, smoothing out lines and wrinkles in the area.

How do MR Injectable Wrinkle Treatments Work?

MR injectable wrinkle treatments work by blocking the impulses from the nerves that control muscle movement. When injected into muscle tissue, a muscle relaxation results after about three days and the muscles can not contract, creating a smooth rejuvenated appearance of the overlying skin. This effect can last anywhere from three to eight month or when used for the treatment of dynamic facial lines, the effect typically last for about ten to twelve weeks.

What facial wrinkle areas can be treated?

Anti-wrinkle treatments help to reduce excessive movement of underlying muscles. Lines and wrinkles from sagging skin will not be improved by treatment with a injectable wrinkle treatment. The most commonly treated areas include:

  • Frown lines or worry lines between the eyebrows;
  • “Surprise” or forehead lines;
  • Crows feet or “laugh lines”;
  • Non surgical eyebrow lift;
  • Shaping the eyebrows.
In these areas, excessive contraction of the muscles below the skin cause it to wrinkle and eventually “crease”. “Crease” lines on the skin that do not disappear when stretched out will be improved, but not completely removed by the injectable wrinkle treatment and may need treatment by other methods.

How quickly will I see results?

With anti-wrinkle injections, expect to see initial results 1 to 2 days following treatment, with the full effects visible at between 7 and 14 days.

How long will the results last?

The effects of anti-wrinkle treatments usually last up to four months. If you have regular anti-wrinkle treatments, the effects may last longer.
Anti-wrinkle injections relax only the muscles beneath the lines where product has been injected, and the muscles responsible for other aspects of your facial expression stay active. If you have no further treatments, the muscles return to normal and lines gradually go back to how they looked before treatment.

What does the injection process involve?

Small quantities of muscle relaxing wrinkle treatment are injected into the muscle to be treated using a tiny needle similar to an acupuncture needle. Several tiny injections, approximately five to ten per area, are made. The discomfort is minimal and no anaesthetic is required, although a cold pack may sometimes be applied prior to the injections.

Are there any side effects?

Anti-wrinkle injections are usually well tolerated, however, as with all medications, side effects can occur. Possible side effects include pain, burning or stinging; bruising, swelling or redness at the injection site; local muscle weakness including drooping eyelids or eyebrows; swollen eyelids and skin tightness; tingling sensations, itching or aching forehead; headaches, nausea and flu-like symptoms.

Who should not have anti-wrinkle treatment?

Patients with neuromuscular disorders should not be treated. Minimal side effects from MR injectable wrinkle treatment have also been reported by pregnant or nursing women who have been inadvertently treated.

Is there any downtime?

There is very little downtime with anti-wrinkle injections. The average treatment session lasts about 10 minutes and you can return to your day-to-day activities straight away.
